3.1" Grade A quality Ammonite split polished pair with Calcite crystal filled chambers.  Fantastic shades of brown, red, and yellow colors in filled agatized and calcified chambers.  Ammonites are an extinct group of marine animals related to the modern day squid.  The last of its surviving lines disappeared with the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, although this piece is much older.  As it grew, it added newer and larger chambers to the open end of the spiral.  Only the last and largest chamber was occupied by the living animal at any given moment.  A top notch fossil specimen for display and study from Madagascar.
