Click here to view store Here is a pathological beaver tooth from the Pleistocene of the St. Marks River, Florida. The Latin species name is Castor canadensis. This specimen measures 1 1/4" long. Because beaver teeth continually grow throughout the animal's life, if the teeth do not match up perfectly then the tooth continues to grow past the occlusal surface. That's what you see on this tooth, the animal's teeth did not match up perfectly and a portion of the tooth just continued to grow.
