5 POUNDS OF PETRIFIED AND OPALIZED WOOD FROM VIRGIN VALLEY, NV These beautiful petrified and/or opalized wood specimens are a mixed assortment in size and shapes for display, metaphysical uses, collections or to resell. They have not been cut, cleaned or modified in any way--real natural beauty. You can easily tell the opalized ones. They are darker, harder and a lot heaver. Often these can be cut into beautiful cabs. Small pieces of some of the petrified wood may flake off, so if you see small pieces in your box when you receive it do not be surprised. I have left them natural but some people prefer to coat ones like this with a clear coating to prevent this. You get what you see in the picture. Petrified wood consists of fossil wood where the organic materials have been replaced with minerals , while retaining the original structure of the wood.
