This auction is for a really great specimen of the Large Extinct Peccary Catagonus from the Bone Valley Formation of Central Florida. Catagonus was the larger of the two genera of fossil Peccaries that occurred in Florida during the early Pliocene. This specimen was collected at the famous Bone Valley Phosphate Mines of Polk County, Florida! It was found exactly as you see it today with no restoration or even glue used. It’s very solid with no wear and has two very nice complete teeth – A great item for Display!

Fossils from Florida’s Bone Valley area were collected during the different phosphate mining operations that took place in the central part of the state. During the late 1990’s almost all of the fossil-bearing phosphate deposits have been mined out, making these fossils increasingly harder to acquire! Fossils from the Bone Valley are highly prized & sought after because of their unique coloration from the different clays & minerals in the sediment and have produced some of the most beautifully preserved Megalodon “Giant Great Whiteâ€ Shark Teeth ever found. The Bone Valley Formation also has an unusually large and diverse terrestrial mammal fauna.  Please see item specifics for complete data on the specimen

If you have any questions please just ask as I’m very friendly & will try to help you as best as I can. Note that payment must be sent within seven days from close of auction. Once payment is received your item will be shipped usually within 24 hours (or 48 for international orders). I’m offering different items from my collection which I have either found myself or acquired over the last 25 plus years in order to help down-size my own fossil collection and make it more manageable. I take very good care of the specimens I have and will ensure the same when listing & shipping an item, which is why I only list a specimen every day or so; instead of “mass listingâ€ different items all on the same day as this is just a very serious hobby for me.  Please note that some specimens may have a small ID number on them.

Thanks!
