This auction is for an extremely nice whole fossil scute (Osteoderm) to the large marine fossil Crocodile Gavialosuchus. This specimen was collected at the Haile Limestone Mines of Alachua County, Florida. Fossil sites at Haile are individually numbered for each fossil-bearing sinkhole found at the mine. The fauna and age of each sinkhole is unique and different sites range from Miocene to very late Pleistocene. This particular specimen was collected at site #19 during the early 1980’s which has been completely excavated. Most fossils found at Haile reside in state museums and very few vertebrate fossils from this site are in private collections, especially from the earlier excavations!!

The condition of this specimen is very good with only 2 small chips it was collected whole in one piece with no restoration & is certainly a rare find in Florida!

I’m offering different items from my collection which I have either found myself or acquired over the last 25 plus years in order to help down-size my own fossil collection and make it more manageable. I take very good care of the specimens I have and will ensure the same when listing & shipping an item, which is why I only list a specimen every day or so; instead of “mass listingâ€� different items all on the same day as this is just a very serious hobby for me.  Please note that some specimens may have a small ID number on them.
