This is a 100 million year old fossil that has been cleaned to reveal the amazing spiral shell.
Ammonites are the fossilized remains of squid-like animals which existed from 420 million years ago till the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period, 65 million years ago. It is believed that the structure of the shell was strong enough to withstand water pressures down to 500 meters.

The spiraling chambers are a master design based on a mathematical formula with each chamber being exactly 1.6 times larger in volume than the previous.
