This unique and rare amber is from the mountainous region of Chiapas, Mexico, in a hilltop village called Simojovel.  This Mayan Amber, especailly having colors of red, blue, or green, is extremely rare and difficult to mine.  It became amber when the sap of the Hymenaea courbaril tree, of between 23.8 and 33.7 million years ago, fossilized.  Sometimes dirt, insects, or plant matter was trapped inside the sap.  This particular piece has beautiful plant inclusions, well seen inside the green-blue shine of the amber.  There are also brilliant sparkles of yellow amber shining through.  It is professionally polished, weighs 104.5 grams, and measures 8 x 5 x 4.5 cm.
