This is fossil of an upper lobe of a caudal fin. I don't know what type of fish it was. This is the first one I have ever found.

I am fortunate that I live in Ladonia Texas, an area replete with Cretaceous (70 million year old) aquatic fossil remains at the NorthSulphurRiver, and its surrounding tributaries. This area was once an ancient sea, part of a continental shelf that was estimated to be about 250 feet below sea level, which was an ideal depth for animals to birth their young. Typical finds in the area include,( but are not limited to) remains of: Large predatorial reptiles such as Mosasaur, Plesiosaur, many types of bony fish such as Enchodus petrosus, Xiphactinus audux, Chondrichthyes such as Shark and Rays, and invertebrate remains of Pelecypods, Gastropods, Oysters, and Ammonites of many types.

I am not a scientist, but only a collector. I am selling my personal items, because I am a single mother of five children, trying to support three college educations! It is not time wise or expedient for me to find a taxonomic description for everything I am selling. The best resource that I have found for identifying these fossils is The Fossil Collector’s Guide to the NorthSulphurRiver (Volume 4) by the Dallas Paleontological Society.

I will indicate in the title of my listing what you are bidding on.

Thank you for looking!
