Chiapas amber from southern Mexico is known for its variety of naturally occurring colors along with its clarity. This auction is for a 10.1 grampolished parcel of 18 red Chiapas (Mexican) amber pieces. Most pieces I would describe as cherry red in color while a couple are more orange-red. One piece contains an insect, a small moth fly. It is shown in the gallery picture. Insects in Chiapas amber are rare. The 18 pieces range in size from around 1 to 1.8 cm in length and have a mass of 0.3 to 1.0 grams each. True red amber is rare. The main theory behind why these pieces are red is due to oxidation of the amber. These pieces could be used in jewelry or kept as specimens. I personallyhand-sanded and completely polished this amber from Chiapas rough with pictures taken in natural sunlight. These pieces are not with any fossil insects; however, a few pieces may contain some inclusions. These inclusions aid in giving the piece its color. Please see myother amber auctions consisting mainly of Dominican amber with insect and botanical inclusions as well as rareDominican blue amber and burmite amber. Thank you for your consideration. I will ship worldwide at a cost of $4.00 U.S. I will combine items to save on shipping for up to a 10 day period. NO INTERNATIONAL MONEY ORDERS PLEASE. ![]() | |
