It is not very likely to find Cretaceous age burmite amber for sale anywhere on eBay due to its rarity and recent reports indicating that this amber supply is presently cut off due to the political situation in Burma (Myanmar) as well as the most recent cyclone disaster.  Up for bidding is a large piece of very rare and uncommon burmite (burmese amber).

This fully polished, pendant-shaped piece weighs 9.4 grams (47 carats) and has approximate dimensions:  length of around 4 cm with a width of 1.5 cm and height of 1.5 cm and has differing colors depending upon if light is shining on it or through it  and the background color as evidenced by the photographs which were all taken in natural sunlight.  This is due to the piece's natural chemical fluorescent properties.  It is a very durable amber in comparison with other ambers from around the world.  I am of the opinion that it would look great in a piece of jewelry.  It was hand-sanded and polished by me.  The piece exhibits good clarity and is essentially fracture free.  The photographs were taken in natural sunlight.  Burmite is the name given for amber originating from Burma (Myanmar).  This amber deposit is considered to be among the oldest in the world along with New Jersey and Lebanese ambers and was sticky resin during the time of the dinosaurs.  This past summer (2007) a paper was published describing the oldest known mushroom to ever be found in amber.  This amber originated from Myanmar.  I purchased this piece a couple of years ago from eBay seller Ron Buckley in the rough and hand-sanded and polished it.  Mr. Buckley is one of the authors of this paper along with Dr. George Poinar of Oregon State University.  Being that it is such a hard fossil resin as compared to other ambers and can possess beautiful flow lines, burmite is widely sought after for jewelry as well as scientific studies.  This particular piece is not with any insects.  Thank you for your consideration.  Please see my Dominican amber items with insects and botanicals as well, including rare blue amber and red Chiapas amberShipping worldwide is $4.00 U.S., and I will combine items to save on shipping as appropriate for a period of up to 10 days.  NO INTERNATIONAL MONEY ORDERS PLEASE.
