Dominican amber is known for the clarity as well as variety of its inclusions.  Such things as insects, arachnids, and botanicals can be found.  Up for bidding on is a polished amber gemstone containing a nice stingless bee (genus Proplebeia, species dominicana (now extinct).  But that's not all!  It also contains a large round beetle, 2 planthoppers, and the majority of a good-sized leaf.  Please see all the photographsThe bee can be seen easily at arm's length.  Stingless bees are the most common bee found in Dominican amber.  They would collect resin from the amber tree (Hymenae protera, now extinct) in order to build their nests.  Hence, they would often get caught.  Rarely, stingless bees can be found with resin balls on their hind legs.  These ones do not contain resin balls.   I rarely come across bees with resin.  I hand-sanded and polished this piece from rough originating from the Dominican Republic.  The piece itself weighs 3.4 grams and has approximate dimensions of 1.7 cm length, 1 cm width, and 1.7 cm height.  This piece could be used as a specimen or in a piece of jewelry.  I also offer rare Dominican blue amber specimens for sale as well as very rare burmite (burmese) amber and cherry red Chiapas amber.  Thank you for your consideration.  This amber will ship worldwide at $4.00 U.S.  I will combine items to save on shipping.  NO INTERNATIONAL MONEY ORDERS PLEASE.
