Description:

Here is a very rare section of capybara mandible from the Pleistocene of the St. Marks River, Florida. The Latin species name is Hydrochaeris holmesi. This specimen measures 3 1/4" long. I'm also including with this jaw a tooth that was found along side of it and fits perfectly into the jaw. This tooth is definitely from the same animal, and likely fits into the space shown in the pictures.
