One matching pair for bid. Low, .99 cent starting bid! This ammonite fossil was cut in half and is highly polished. From the Lower Cretaceous Period, this ammonite was found in Tulear, Madagascar. It is about 120 million years old. These matching ammonite fossil halves have fine detail. You can see the highly detailed suture and septa lines. Many of these fossil ammonites display a colorful iridescence on the reverse. The term ammonite refers to an extinct group of mollusks. These creatures died out along with the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous Period (65 million years ago). Ammonites flourished for about 330 million years. Their numbers and types were once vast. Today, the only living day relative of the ammonite is the pearly nautilus, which is found in the South Pacific Ocean.
