You will never find a real Utahraptor claw that costs anywhere near this price, as they are too rare and unheard of in the fossil market! It measures 9&1/4� along the curve. History: It was Velociraptor that became the big star of the JurassicPark films, but that animal owes its success to the Utahraptor. Though scrappy fossil remains were originally unearthed in the 1970’s, it wasn’t until the discovery of more bones in Moab, Utah that Utahraptor would be officially brought into the public’s eye. Discovered by paleontologist Dr. James Kirkland, Utahraptor (meaning “Utah plunderer� or “Utah thief�) turned out to be the largest known dromaeosaur of its kind. Dromaeosaurs (also commonly referred to as "the raptors"), are believed to share a common ancestor with birds, and also are the family to which Velociraptor belongs. During the filming of JurassicPark, director Steven Spielberg received heat for making his Velociraptors 6 feet tall (they are only 2 ½ feet tall in reality). Up to then no member of the raptor family had come close to that tall—until Utahraptor came along! Utahraptor reached a height of 8 feet tall and 22 feet long! Because of this raptor’s immense size, it was Okayed for Spielberg to keep his raptors larger than usual. Utahraptor lived in the western United States during the Early Cretaceous of 125 million years ago. Like other members of its family, it too would more than likely have had a thick layer of feathers encompassing its body. With its killing claws and immense size it was, without a doubt, one of the most fearsome and deadly of the earth’s dinosaurs! Happy Bidding!
