This is Rare Alabama Nautiloid or Nautilus With Quartz Crystals Inside the Chambers

This Rare Chambered Nautliloid (Hercoglossa ulrichi) is from Alabama and is from the Paleocene time period. This fossil nautloid is 45 - 64 million years old and is from an ancient sea bed that was located here. I cut the base of the matrix it sits on so it displays at a nice angle. These nautilus shells contain quartz crystals inside the hollow chambers and many also have pyrite crystals. Check out the suture lines and the curled tail. You get the exact nautiloid shown in the photos below which is 6.107" tall and 5.518" across the base. This nautiloid weighs in at 6 lbs and 10.6 ounces.
